Scuba Diving In India

September 9, 2015

Splash! A leap of faith taken! The surface closing overhead, you are sinking in slowly. Buoyancy is working its science but the weights on you help you descend into the colorless waters. You hear the sound of your breath and your heartbeat regulates with the rhythm of the quiet waters. Tranquility takes over and everything … More Scuba Diving In India

Roaming in the Western Ghats

May 12, 2015

Sitting in a sparsely crowded bus station at 5 a.m. and sipping hot tea, I looked around. A few curious faces stared back at me. I was waiting for the daybreak. A sudden plan & I had packed my backpack, journeyed overnight and landed in a new place at the wee hours. And so here I … More Roaming in the Western Ghats

How to pack light and travel smart?

January 6, 2015

Traveling is exciting and packing bags is like a countdown – excitement building up every minute. As a kid I have seen Papa pack bags with perfection and I am glad I’ve inherited some of his skills. I have always been praised for my ‘only-one-light-backpack’ travel style even for longer trips and it just keeps … More How to pack light and travel smart?

Pretty scenes from Majuli #1 This river island in Brahmaputra is a true beauty, not just in terms of nature, but also it's people and the many age-old stories depicting the interesting culture and traditions of Assam. The little Mising (one of the indigenous community) villages, the bamboo chang ghars (houses on stilts), cute little foot/cycling bridges over water, stunning sun rise and sun set skies, mini woods with beautiful birds and butterflies, mask makers of Samaguri Sattra, lush felds with swaying, yellow mustard flowers, beels (water bodies/ponds) covered with verdant aquatic plants and numerous water birds, and undisturbed silence. There's more than this, but I'd leave that for you to experience on your own 😉 #assam #northeastindia #majuli #riverisland #igtravel #incredibleindia #travelindia #traveljournal #wanderlove #explore #travelgram #india_ig #indianwomentraveller #indiagram #indiapictures #igers #travelandhappiness👣
This beauty! 😍🦋 . #assam #guwahati #butterflies #nature #beautifulplanet #forests
~The River People of Brahmaputra~ The mighty Brahmaputra, also known as Tsangpo meaning ‘purifier’, flows through Assam breathing life into the valley and resulting in a rich biodiversity. In the picture: Residents of the ‘char’s being ferried across the Brahmaputra near Mayong village in Assam. Chars are the sandbars or sandbanks in the river. Given the meandering nature of Brahmaputra, these chars are known to appear and disappear seasonally. I’m in #Assam working on a story in collaboration with the passionate and fabulous team of @aaranyak_india . I’m amazed by the beauty this part of Assam has in terms of people, places and most importantly – the wildlife. Every day I’m learning so much about the environment, ecosystem and the beautiful relationship all its elements share with each other. But also every day I’m disheartened talking and thinking about the hard-hitting fact that the threats our planet currently faces are real, whether one sees it or not, agrees or not. Aaryanak and its team is doing a fab job primarily towards the conservation of the wildlife in the Northeast, amongst others. A healthy ecosystem equals a heathy planet. They are also creating awareness and educating the people through various means. I’m hoping to contribute my bit towards the positive changes we all need. #environment #nature #climatechange #sustainability #savetheplanet #sustainable #earth #globalwarming #sustainableliving #noplastic #india #climatecrisis #conservation #wildlife #future #biodiversity #environmentalawareness #climatechangeisreal #northeastindia #brahmaputra #wildlifeconservation
It's important for me to know about, respect and be aware of the other creatures we share the planet with. We are so occupied in our lives and for its betterment (mostly comfort wise) that we seldom acknowledge or even care about our other non-human neighbours, so much so that we all know how we have successfully managed to wipe out some species completely off the face of earth😔 If you know what I mean, and agree with me, can we start with a tiiiny step today in the right direction, do you think it's possible? I have decided to learn more about the pressing environmental issues, learn about the changes I can make an at individual level, share it in my circle, spread the awareness in my capacity by whatever means possible. Have made some little-big changes to my lifestyle keeping in mind the impact it has/will have. And you, will you join me? What change will you make starting today? Had the most exciting time walking in the Garbhanga Reserve Forest. Joined the team of experts (both photography and wildlife) on this butterfly trail. In a span of 6ish km, they ID'd about 45 species of butterflies - the forest apparently houses more than 200 species!! Learned a lot about these jewel-winged creatures 😍 with bonus photography tips 😁 The forest is home to a several species of birds too, but this day was about butterflies (only) 🦋❤️😊 This one in the picture is a banded tree brown butterfly - yes I had learned and forgotten the name (along with a few more) by the end of the day and had to look up again now 🙈 #indianbutterflies #northeastindia #travelindia #butterfly #northeastdiaries #india_ig #india_clicks #indiagram #naturephotography #traveljournal #wildlifeconservation #indianwomentravellers #nature #Assam #indianwriters #wildlifeofindia #environmentjournalism #storytelling #urbanbiodiversity #travelandhappiness👣
Greater adjutant storks resting in the landfills they call home. These scavenger birds are huge in size, and are as tall as an average person. Once a threatened species, they have found home and are thriving now, thanks to the conservationist groups and the great job they are doing 😊 While on one hand I was happy to see a large number of adjutants living here, on the other hand I couldn't stop thinking and being concerned for there lay heaps and heaps of huge mounds - made up with dreadful amount of plastic waste! ☹️ #urbanbiodiversity #Assam #northeast #environmentissues #wildlifeconservation #india_ig #indiapictures #storiesofindia #india_clicks #indianwriters #photostory #indiaphotostory #savetheplanet #saynotoplastic #environmentjournalism #pictureworthathousandwords
~Remain~ Some things in life are worth a wait, but not all. Your time is limited, so you, and you alone, need to decide the next move - wait, pause, rest, linger, think, decide and move or ... remain. . Just some random thoughts as I join in the anticipated wait of this lake for a visit from the migratory birds which must have begun their journey from another part of the world towards this lake already... . .. #assam #northeast #northeastdiaries #traveljournal #traveldiary #solo #wanderer #wanderlove #musings #travelphotography #travelstories #travelindia #indiagram #migratorybirds #guwahati #assamdays #thereshegoesagain #shetravels #lovemylife #travel #travelgram #birdsanctuary #randomthoughts #travelblogger #reflection #bluelake #bluewater #indianwomentravellers #travelandhappiness👣
~Rise like the mountains~ Walking on the ledge of the Meru glacier. It was quite a challenge for me to walk, not only because walking on the ridge was scary, but also coz the sole of my shoe had come off and the terrain this day involved walking on moraines. I avoided stepping into the snow and instead took the longer route over the boulders or the trail sans snow. Yet tiny stones, loose gravel and snow seeped into my shoes every now and then making it uncomfortable for me to walk and maintain a good pace. At some point I did think I should have stayed back at the campsite. But I also couldn't think of simply waiting and watching the mount Meru stand right there, in front of eyes (the peak was visible from the campsite) To me the idea seemed something I'd regret for a long long time. And oh boy, for all the pain I endured (yes that's what it was, pain, walking with bandaged shoes) what I was rewarded with was the terrific and soul-filling view of the glaciers and peaks all around me, from such proximity, a challenging and worthy by all means, trail to walk on and supreme peace of standing so close to this beautiful beautiful #mountain and to be in a certain way, embraced lovingly by them ❤️ #travelstories #mountainlove #mountainchild #snowmountain #glacier #meru #mountmeru #meruglacier #himalayas #mytravels #travelindia #trekking #outdoors #liveoutdoors #challengeyourself #snow #wanderer #wanderlove #wanderingsoul #travelgram #instadaily #indiagram #indiaig #indianwomentravellers #india #travelandhappiness👣
"Would you like to buy some handmade woollen items?" She called-out, as I strolled the tiny Buddhist village of Bagori near #Harshil. Most houses here, beautiful, old and wooden, were locked, so I was little startled by the call. I politely refused, to which she said, "no problem, come have tea with us and I can also show you our apple gardens". I smiled and accepted the invitation. In the pic, we are at their apple orchard, that's Sarita didi and her husband. She then showed me her house and made some black tea for us. It was a beautiful, wooden, ancestral house of about a 100 yrs old! While chatting, she told me they were just back a few days ago. The entire village migrates to lower altitudes during the bitter winters (which is why most of the houses were locked, their owners were yet to come) Sarita didi told me that it snows quite heavily in winters, depositing over 10 feet of snow! I purchased a woollen cap for mom (which she loved!) Chatted some more, clicked some more pictures (and selfies). When I was finally ready to leave, she said, "if you are free in the evening, join us for dinner" 😊 I love these #mountainpeople for all their love, simplicity, and the warm, kind and genuine heart they possess 💕😊 #stories #travelstories #travelindia #travelgram #indiagram #appleorchard #peopleandplaces #placesandfaces #mytravels #solo #solotraveller #solowomantraveler #indianwomentravellers #wanderer #wanderingsoul #wanderlove #journeys #mountainlove #mountainchild #uttarakhand #indiaig #india #peopleyoumeet #beautifulpeople #beautifulworld #instagoodvibes #travelandhappiness👣
